UNF assistant budget director named 2023 Finance Rising Star
Michael McGuire, assistant director of budgeting, planning and reporting for the University of North Florida, has been named a Rising Star in finance by the Jacksonville Business Journal.
This is the first year of the Rising Stars program, which spotlights professionals in four categories: finance, legal, logistics and real estate. The JBJ announced the honorees at the end of 2023 and is hosting an event to recognize them later this month.
McGuire earned both a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master’s degree in business administration from UNF. He has been working at the University since 2010, working his way up from accounting associate in student affairs to his current assistant director role, which he was named to in August 2021.
UNF Chief Budget Officer Devany H. Groves said McGuire has exceptional leadership and strategic analytic expertise, which helped him be an instrumental voice on the President’s Taskforce for Strategic Growth and spearhead important projects across campus.
“Mike’s adeptness in implementing technologies and information systems has driven efficiency and precision in financial reporting and analysis,” Groves said. “His trajectory as a rising star is undeniable, as he continues to highlight the path to visionary and informed financial leadership.”
In the Rising Stars JBJ article about McGuire, he talked about guiding, mentoring and coaching UNF students and staff. “The ability to share valuable business and life lessons with them and witness how they incorporate those principles to thrive in their respective careers is especially rewarding to me,” McGuire said in the interview.
