UNF students receive Osprey Community Engagement Medallions for outstanding service

Osprey Community Engagement Medallion recipients standing togetherThe University of North Florida Center for Community-Based Learning recognized 19 outstanding students for their volunteer service and considerable lasting contributions to the greater community with the Osprey Community Engagement Medallion.

Students awarded the Osprey Community Engagement Medallion demonstrate excellence and exhibit personal development, intellectual growth, and positive community impact resulting from their community engagement experiences. Recipients are expected to have engaged in a variety of activities demonstrating the diversity of commitment in serving their communities while making a significant investment to at least one community-based experience over time.

The following Spring 2023 UNF graduates received the Osprey Community Engagement Medallion:

  • Khelsea Boyd is a Coggins College Arts and Sciences student graduating with a master's degree in social work.
  • Paige Brooks is a Brooks College of Health and Hicks Honors College graduate majoring in nursing and minoring in American Sign Language/deaf studies.
  • Bruno Calado is a Coggin College of Business student graduating with a master's degree in management.
  • Chandria Carter is a Brooks College of Health student graduating with a degree in health science and public health, minoring in health education.
  • Blayne Curtis is a College of Computing, Engineering and Construction student earning a degree in electrical engineering with a minor in mathematics.
  • Allison Dodson is a Brooks College of Health student graduating with a degree in nursing and a minor in business management.
  • Dylan Fergus is a College of Arts and Sciences student graduating with a bachelor's degree majoring in political science, pre-law, and a minor in environmental science.
  • Ernesto Gonzalez is a College of Computing, Engineering and Construction and Hicks Honors College student graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Mario Granados Serrano is a Coggin College of Business student graduating with a bachelor's degree in business intelligence.
  • Rachel Heiser is a College of Arts and Sciences student graduating with a bachelor's degree majoring in history, minoring in art history.
  • Michaela Hewitt is a College of Education and Human Services student graduating with a bachelor's degree in English education.
  • Katie Jones is a College of Arts and Sciences student graduating with a bachelor's degree in sociology and environmental studies.
  • Selah Jones is a College of Arts and Sciences student graduating with a bachelor's degree in political science.
  • Marianne Kardahi is a Brooks College of Health student graduating with a degree in health science and public health, minoring in global health education.
  • Kimberly Laynes is a College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction student graduating with a master's degree in computer science.
  • Samantha Maks is a Brooks College of Health student completing her degree in nursing.
  • Erin Mari Poblete is a Brooks College of Health and Hicks Honors College student completing her degree in nursing.
  • Alicia Scott is a Brooks College of Health student completing her degree in nutrition and dietetics, with a minor in food systems and sustainability.
  • Minakshi Sharma is a Brooks College of Health student completing her master's degree in public health - Epidemiology.

In addition to the 19 Osprey Community Engagement Medallion recipients, Dr. Jennifer Wesely was recognized as a finalist for the Campus Compact Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award.

UNF is a community engagement classified campus by the Carnegie Foundation for Teaching. This is a prestigious honor that only 10% of degree-granting institutions hold. Community-Based Transformational Learning is the backbone of UNF’s community engagement commitment. It provides students with rich, real-world opportunities that enhance student learning, personal development and civic involvement while contributing to the enrichment and well-being of the greater Jacksonville community and beyond.
