What are These Fees For?

Students are assessed fees based on the level of the course as established by the University Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors and the Florida State Legislature. Rates are applicable to the main campus and are used as a basis for assessing course charges per credit hour for Florida and non-Florida residents.

A listing of additional fee information for specific courses is available on the Admissions Office website. Consult appropriate departments for course material and computing fees for those classes. Fees are subject to change without notice.

Tuition Fee 

The tuition fee is the instructional fee that is assessed to all students. The tuition tee provides funding for most operating and fixed costs including personnel salaries and benefits. It is based upon credit hours taken, undergraduate/graduate. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

Out-of-State Tuition Fee Surcharge in addition to Tuition Fee

The out-of-state tuition fee is the instructional fee surcharge (charged in addition to the tuition fee) that is assessed to students who are not classified as Florida residents. The tuition fee provides funding for most operating and fixed costs including personnel salaries and benefits. It is based upon credit hours taken, undergraduate/graduate. Tuition Differential Fee

Pursuant to Florida Statute 1009.24 (16), the tuition differential fee is assessed to students who have not been continuously enrolled at the University of North Florida since July 1, 2007 or are not the beneficiary of a Florida Prepaid contract purchased prior to July 1, 2007. The tuition differential fee provides funding for undergraduate education and need-based financial aid. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

ID Card Fee 

Florida statute 1009.24 (12)(c) allows the University of North Florida to assess a non-refundable ID card fee to offset the costs associated with implementation and maintenance. The ID fee is assessed once per academic year per student. See our tuition rate chart for the amount of the fee.

Capital Improvement Fee

The capital improvement fee support the issuance of revenue bonds used for the construction of classrooms and facilities. These funds are administered by the Board of Governors. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

Activity and Student Union Fee

The activity fee supports student activities and support services and is used to fund the Student Government Association budget. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

The student union fee is an activity fee that supports the construction and operations of the new student union. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

Athletic Fee

The athletic fee supports student activities and support services, including intramurals/facilities, and intercollegiate athletics, the upgrade of the University's intercollegiate athletic program to NCAA Division I competition for both men and women and other co-curricular activities. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee. All University athletic events are free of charge to UNF students.

Health Fee, Medical Compliance Fee, Health Promotion Fee, Counseling Fee, and DRC Accommodations

The health fee, medical compliance fee, health promotion fee, counseling fee, and DRC accommodations are health-related fees that support student activities and support services for the Dottie Dorion Fitness Center, the Counseling Center and the Campus Alcohol and Drug Information Center. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

Transportation Access Fee

The transportation access fee supports the shuttle service that services the remote parking areas to the main campus or just around campus. Students will not need to pay or show their student ID to ride the shuttle. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken. Financial Aid Fee

The financial aid fee is used to support scholarships at the University. The student financial aid fee is set by the Florida State Legislature at 5 percent of the tuition fee. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken, undergraduate/graduate. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

Out-of-State Financial Aid Fee

The out-of-state financial aid fee is used to support scholarships at the University. The student financial aid fee is set by the Florida State Legislature at 5 percent of the tuition fee. It is assessed to all non-Florida residency students and is based upon credit hours taken, undergraduate/graduate. See our tuition rate chart for the per credit hour fee.

Technology Fee

The technology fee is established by the University Board of Trustees. The revenue from this fee shall be used to enhance instructional technology resources for students and faculty. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken, undergraduate/graduate. Wellness Center Fee 

The wellness center fee was established by the student government to assist in the building of the Student Wellness and Sports Education Center, designed to meet the students’ needs for a contemporary exercise and fitness facility. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken, undergraduate/graduate. Student Life and Services Fee

The student life and services fee was established by the student government and the University of North Florida to assist and expand student participation in Transformational Learning Opportunities. It builds and enhances ongoing activities which connect students to the institution and provides funding to offset the costs for students with financial need. It is assessed to all students and is based upon credit hours taken, undergraduate/graduate.
