Visit the Writing Center

The UNF Writing Center offers a wide variety of resources for UNF students. For individualized help, we offer 30-minute consultations by appointment and 20-minute drop-in sessions. We also offer drop-in consultations at two satellite locations at select times during the week, as well as regularly-scheduled workshops covering a wide range of writing topics, from brainstorming to revising to incorporating evidence.

Our Locations

The UNF Writing Center has three separate in-person locations. A main suite in Skinner-Jones Hall (Building 4), a satellite location in the UNF Library, and a satellite location in the Osprey Fountains dorm. Below you will find information about and directions to each location.

Main Writing Center

The UNF Writing Center is located in Suite 2501 on the second floor of Skinner-Jones Hall (Building 4). To find us, go to the back of the Bamboo Garden next to the Brooks College of Health (the side furthest from the Student Union building) and take the spiral staircase up to the second floor. The entrance to the Writing Center is just across from the top of the spiral staircase.

If you are not able to use the spiral staircase, take the elevator inside Skinner-Jones Hall to the second floor. Once on the second floor, exit the front of the building and turn right. The front door to the Writing Center will be the first door on your right.

Student Housing Location

This satellite location can be found on the second floor of Osprey Fountains. From the main lobby, take the elevator or the stairs to the second floor. From there, turn left and walk straight ahead until you reach Multipurpose Room #5. Writing Center staff will be at the table in the center of the room.

There will be signage directing you to our location, but if you can't find us, please ask for help in the main lobby.

Library Location

This satellite location can be found on the first floor of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library. Enter the library and walk straight ahead until you reach the Perdue Study Area. Writing Center staff will be in the middle work station on the right-hand side.

To see a map of the first floor that includes the Perdue Study Area, visit the library website.

Still can't find us? Call us at (904) 620-5394 and one of our staff members will direct you.

Coming for a Drop-In? Here's What You Need to Know

  1. When you're ready to meet, scan the QR code on the front desk or table with your phone. Due to staff availability, there may be a wait.
  2. If there is a wait, remain close by your selected location. If you must step out, please let the front desk person or the nearest consultant know, so they can try to hold your spot.
  3. When it is your turn in line, one of our staff members will come and get you.
  4. If you did not alert a staff member that you had to step out and are also not in your selected location when your consultant is ready, you will forfeit your place in line.

Please note: Drop-in sessions are typically general in nature and the writing consultant you meet with may or may not be familiar with your topic or disciplinary writing. Drop-in availability is not guaranteed. During higher-volume periods such as midterms and finals, consultants may be fully booked and unable to take drop-in consultations. For these reasons, we recommend scheduling a consultation in advance with a consultant in your area of study whenever possible.
