UNF MedNexus expands Personal Health Monitoring for veterans in Flagler County

Dr. Julie Merten presenting in front of a screen that reads 'UNF MEDNEXUS Commitment to Community Service for Flagler County'UNF MedNexus is expanding a program to help veterans in Flagler County monitor their fitness and wellness using a Fitbit wearable device and is now accepting additional participants in the study.

The program, which launched in November 2023 and has already helped over 25 veterans, will assist additional veterans in reaching health goals, increasing activity and reducing weight that could prevent future hospitalizations and other significant future complications.

During the study, health parameters are continuously monitored including heart rate, activity level, nutritional status, sleep patterns and VO2max. Participants can easily see their health status on a custom app on their smartphone and daily emails will contain specific recommendations for health status improvement.

An information session will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Flagler County Government Services Building at 1769 E. Moody Blvd. in Bunnell, Florida. The session will be hosted by Dr. Shyam Paryani, a UNF Brooks College of Health faculty member, who is coordinating the monitoring program. For more information on the program or to register for the information session, contact Dr. Paryani at s.paryani@unf.edu
