The Inside 'Swoop’ on the Boathouse
The historic UNF Boathouse restaurant and Student Government are excited to welcome Ospreys through their doors again after having undergone a complete renovation and modernization.
Located on the second floor of the John A. Delaney Student Union, the grand re-opening will be held at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and will feature live sports, music, an improved menu and additional seating. Student Government will provide free Boathouse T-shirts and merchandise while supplies last.
After renovations began before the start of fall semester, both returners and fresh faces can look forward to exciting updates.
A Striking New Appearance
Upon entering the renovated space, the Osprey community will be greeted with new lighting and a fully rustic upgrade.
The gray square tables and high tops in the dining room have been replaced with comfortable cushioned booths and spaces to plug in electronics for those who want to work while enjoying their meal. An old canoe, re-imagined into a unique light fixture hangs from the ceiling, accompanied by several strategically placed large, rusted metal letter lightbulb signs that spell out the name of the restaurant.
The dining space has also been equipped with a new drop-down screen for future viewing parties for away games and 11 large televisions.
Walking past the bar into the attached game room, guests will see a large mural of the original Boathouse from 1973, more space to sit, two pool tables and a spectacular view of the campus below.
Returning Favorites and What’s New
The dining hall is not the only part of the Boathouse that has been reimagined, as new items have been added to the menu. Enjoy a root beer float with the new quesadilla option or one of the three new burgers including the Mac & Cheese and the Sweet Heat BBQ. Those with dietary restrictions will also get the chance to try something new with the Tossed Caprese Salad.
Returners will be happy to know that some Boathouse classics will return to the menu, such as the Osprey Burger, grilled chicken sandwich and Oreo milkshakes.
Individuals can order their food through self-service registrars, and alcohol sales can be ordered at the bar. The Boathouse accepts all forms of payment, including Osprey 1Card, cash, credit and debit.
For Your Entertainment
With the intent to continue being one of the prime hangout spots on campus and place to watch sports games, the Boathouse also plans to host ‘theme nights’ on Wednesdays with a selection of DJs, trivia, karaoke and other fun themes.
Also, while the restaurant will not completely close, clubs and organizations can request to host some of their events in the space.
