GENERAL EDUCATION DIGITAL BADGES +
Recognizing the importance of digital badges, the 2021 Florida Legislature approved a statute that public postsecondary institutions must award students a nationally recognized digital badge upon completion of general education core courses that demonstrate career readiness, beginning with students who initially enter a postsecondary institution in the 2022-2023 academic year. Students can earn each General Education digital badge one time, and it does not expire. Students are encouraged to display their digital badges on Handshake, LinkedIn, and/or resumes.
The Fundamentals of Written Communication Badge is earned after successful completion (earning a grade of “C” or better) of ENC1101 or a course for which ENC1101 is a prerequisite. By earning the Fundamentals of Written Communication Badge, students have demonstrated foundational skills in information literacy, comprehension of written material and conveying information in writing for a variety of rhetorical purposes and audiences. With this badge, students are able to enhance their personal communication skills and convey to future employers that they have acquired vital skills needed for professional success.
Digital badges are short, focused, non-degree credentials that students can earn while pursuing a UNF degree. These credentials have direct professional or career value, as they increase students’ career readiness in response to workforce needs. Digital badges allow students to stand out in a competitive job market. There are many digital badge opportunities available for UNF students to pursue, and there are no additional fees to earn them. For a complete list, visit https://unf.badgr.com.
UNF Digital badges are developed with input from employers, faculty and staff. Digital badges provide opportunities for students to document experiences and skill development that complement their degrees and are not reflected in a transcript. Digital badges are secure and validated indicators of skills and competencies that enable employers and others to verify the accomplishment that the digital badge represents. Students can proudly display their earned digital badges on social media profiles such as LinkedIn, personal websites and digital resumes.

Where can I find my digital badge(s)?
After you've successfully met the requirements for the digital badge, you'll receive an email sent by University of North Florida Badging at noreply@badgr.com to your UNF student email. The email will contain a link that you can use to either create a new account or, if you already have one, to log in. If this is your first badge earned through Canvas Credential, you'll need to set up an account to store and retrieve your badges. Please make sure to use your UNF email address when creating your account and consistently use this same email address for all your badges. This will help keep all your badges in one place. Once you've completed this process, you'll be able to view and claim your digital badge(s). (General education badges are automatically added to a student’s FASTER transcript.) -
