GENERAL EDUCATION DIGITAL BADGES +
Recognizing the importance of digital badges, the 2021 Florida Legislature approved a statute that public postsecondary institutions must award students a nationally recognized digital badge upon completion of general education core courses that demonstrate career readiness, beginning with students who initially enter a postsecondary institution in the 2022-2023 academic year. Students can earn each General Education digital badge one time, and it does not expire. Students are encouraged to display their digital badges on Handshake, LinkedIn, and/or resumes.
The Fundamentals of Written Communication Badge is earned after successful completion (earning a grade of “C” or better) of ENC1101 or a course for which ENC1101 is a prerequisite. By earning the Fundamentals of Written Communication Badge, students have demonstrated foundational skills in information literacy, comprehension of written material and conveying information in writing for a variety of rhetorical purposes and audiences. With this badge, students are able to enhance their personal communication skills and convey to future employers that they have acquired vital skills needed for professional success.
More About Digital Badges
Digital badges are secure and validated indicators of competencies that enable employers and others to verify the accomplishment that the digital badge represents. Earners can display their earned digital badges on social media profiles such as LinkedIn, personal websites, and digital resumes. UNF uses Canvas Credentials (formerly BadgrPro) as its official digital badging platform.
UNF digital badges allow current students to document experiences and skill development that are not reflected in a transcript. Digital badges may be based on the student’s completion of academic coursework and/or other activities that culminate in assessed competencies. These credentials have direct professional or career value, as they increase students’ career readiness in response to workforce needs allowing students to stand out in a competitive job market. There are many digital badge opportunities available at no cost for current UNF students.
UNF also develops and offers digital badges for community members to document validated upskilling through continuing education and professional development programs
