Service Fees
MSERF and UNF charges users for the hourly use of equipment, and for the time of technicians assisting in the preparation of samples and collection of data. In addition, consumables and lab supplies provided by MSERF will also be expensed to users. The fees are established in compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations, apply equally to each type of user, and are non-negotiable.
MSERF rates vary depending on the type of user being charged. The user categories are as follows:
- Internal User – A UNF researcher or employee using a funded research account or internal UNF account.
- External SUS – A Florida State University System researcher performing university research from SUS institutions other than UNF.
- External – Commercial/Industrial entities for all activities not classified as university research.
Rates are shown as hourly charges. Fractional hourly charges apply for different customers depending on customer type and nature of the work. Technician Time is added to the equipment rate when MSERF operates equipment for users.

Mass Spectroscopy Suite Service Fees
MSERF performs method development on the Shimadzu QTOF 9030, MALDI 7090, and MALDI Mini, as a collaborative project with the requesting partner rather than as a posted per-use service. Because the technician time, instrument time, and consumables required vary with each project’s analytes, sample matrix, and performance targets, method development is not billed at a posted rate. Each request begins with a consultation to define the project scope, deliverables, consumable requirements, and estimated technician hours; MSERF then provides a project-specific estimate, and the work is billed on that basis. Any posted per-use rates are based upon routine analysis utilizing a developed methodology.
