General Principles for AI Use at UNF
The University of North Florida establishes the following guiding principles for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by our community. We base these principles on our core values as articulated in our strategic plan. These principles will be further codified and articulated in relevant policy documents for faculty, staff, and students. These principles will also guide how we work with AI and our partners in the northeast Florida region.
In using AI, UNF faculty, staff, and students will...
Understand
that AI is a tool and as such has its uses, strengths, limitations, and risks.
Be accountable
and practice transparency in the use of AI tools by communicating when and how they used such tools in their work products and class projects.
Show integrity
and use AI tools in ethical ways that do not compromise intellectual property rights, data privacy, or our academic rigor and honor.
Strive for excellence
and use AI to enhance and add value to our intellectual and creative work, our teaching and learning, and our operations.
Be civil and promote a culture of care
where the study and use of AI will center the importance and value of humans in all their diversity, and enable participation by all members of our community.
