  • How will AI impact my career in the future?

Artificial intelligence is transforming the nature of work across all industries. AI is opening new career paths and creating opportunities for people to focus on meaningful activities. As a tool, AI automates manual tasks with precision and processes data with accuracy, but it does not replace human thought, creativity, and decision-making. By understanding AI’s strengths and limitations, you will gain valuable skills and knowledge to stay ahead of the curve in your future career.

  • Do I need to major in computing to study AI?

A significant initiative at UNF is to develop cross-disciplinary certificates so that students of any major can integrate AI into their education. While it will be important to understand the fundamentals of artificial intelligence through foundational classes in computing, each certificate will focus on the relevance of artificial intelligence in sectors like healthcare, business, the arts, science, education, and more.

In addition to academic coursework, UNF also offers digital badges like Introduction to AI in which you can learn about artificial intelligence at your own pace and earn credentials to showcase on your resume to prospective employers.

  • How can I use AI now?

Artificial intelligence has been advancing in our lives for years, from AI opponents in games and recommendations on Amazon to voice assistants like Siri and Alexa, writing aids like Grammarly, and self-driving Teslas. With the advent of generative AI, we can now engage with AI more directly in learning, research, work, and play.

Microsoft Copilot is available to all students at copilot.microsoft.com when you log in with your UNF ID. Unlike ChatGPT and other open source tools, Microsoft Copilot at UNF ensures data protection and privacy, so your queries or research are never shared with the large language model. Copilot is also integrated with Microsoft Office 365 products (licensing required), providing guidance while you work in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more.

  • What other AI tools are available to students?

In addition to Microsoft Copilot, many software systems are now equipped with built-in AI features to perform specialized tasks. Through the Virtual Lab, students have access to software for statistical and data analysis or predictive modeling such as MatLab, Minitab, JMP, ArcGIS, and SAS. Adobe Creative Cloud and GitHub are available at a discount to UNF students. Many generative AI tools for content, image, or video generation are available online. However, be mindful of data privacy and never share sensitive information on external platforms.

Explore these technologies and tools to see how AI capabilities in vendor software might benefit you.

  • How do I cite AI-generated content?

Like all research, it is important to properly cite the use of content sourced from AI tools. Refer to the How to Cite AI Tools guide provided by the UNF Library.

Always verify sources and validate AI-generated information. While AI can offer insights, it may also produce inaccurate or outdated information. Confirm accuracy before relying on or referencing content in your schoolwork.
