Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award 2009-2010
Rico Vitz is Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside and a M.S. from the University of Utah. He specializes in the history of modern philosophy and focuses, within that field, on questions concerning ethics and moral psychology. He is currently completing a book titled Reforming the Art of Living: Nature, Virtue, and Religion in Descartes’s Epistemology and looks forward to turning his attention to research on David Hume's psychology of religious belief, for which he won an NEH Summer Stipend in 2008.
He has been at UNF since Fall 2006 and was selected to coach UNF's Ethics Bowl team in 2009. He is particularly proud of last year's team, which became the first in the sixteen-year history of Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl to represent UNF at the national competition, analyzing complex and compelling ethical dilemmas facing contemporary society.
