From the time students arrive on campus for orientation until they complete their last exam, the Dean of Students Office engages them in ways that support and contribute to their academic and personal growth. We are committed to fostering an environment characterized by mutual respect, ethical behavior, civility, safety, and free-expression regardless of differences, providing students a place to bring their concerns and voice their opinions in an appropriate manner.
We work with all students, particularly those who encounter unexpected obstacles along the way, and use those challenges as a means to develop their problem-solving, communication and conflict resolutions skills, and to provide an understanding of campus policies and procedures, with a focus on student rights and responsibilities.
The Dean of Students Office serves as consultants for faculty/staff who have concerns about students they teach or with whom they work, provide assistance to students during major personal or family emergencies, and provides access to and coordination of services to help students who lack a fixed residence so that they can remain enrolled and succeed academically. The Dean of Students Office works collaboratively with other offices on campus to enhance the quality of a student's life and member of the UNF community.
The Office of the Dean of Students enhances the UNF student experience and supports student retention by helping maintain a safe and secure campus environment free from disruption in which students may learn and understand their rights and responsibilities, thereby allowing them to assume an active role in their own academic, personal, and co-curricular life. The Office collaborates with students, faculty and staff to promote the practice of institutional values, with a particular emphasis on ethical conduct, mutual respect and civility.
The Office of the Dean of Students seeks to promote a just campus community that recognizes each individual’s worth and dignity, and understands and values the rights and responsibilities of all of its members.
