Parent Information

Parent Organization

The UNF Preschool acknowledges parents as partners in educating their children. In the Reggio Approach, parents are co-responsible for the education of their children. It is essential and teachers work diligently to involve and engage parents in a variety. Of ways throughout the school year. We strive for optimal parent engagement. One avenue for parent engagement is membership in the parent organization. Membership in the Parent Organization is a step toward a higher level of parental involvement at the UNF Preschool by creating a planned program of experiences and activities that support and enhance the family. While the UNF Preschool does some fund-raising, its primary goal is to get preschool parents involved with their children in various sponsored activities. Every year the Parent Organization meets to design activities for families to enjoy, as well as other activities to help support the preschool and family life. Some of our previous activities include:

  • Walking fieldtrips to the UNF Nature Trails
  • Organizing Teacher Appreciation week
  • Preparing materials for the classroom
  • Child guidance seminars
  • Showcasing Class Project work
  • Speakers about the DCPS magnet program options
  • Transition to Kindergarten
  • Multicultural Family Music Festival
  • VPK graduation
  • Field Day
  • Children’s Art Exhibition
  • Family Fest

The UNF Preschool's Parent Organization meets once a month to plan events and support the UNF Preschool. Please join us in our meetings to help enrich our children's lives.

Parent Testimonials

Hear what some of our parents and families have to say about their time with the UNF Preschool:

"My daughter has attended the UNF Preschool since she was two and a half. She is excited every morning about going to school. She loves the teachers and her classmates. As a parent, I can be at ease when she is at school knowing that she is safe and cared for. My daughter is learning so much and she is having a lot of fun too. Keep up the good work!" - Jane B.

"We have been to 3 different daycares/preschools, with one being a home daycare. Since the moment I came in for a tour and saw Latoya, then walked around with Mahreen, I instantly felt at home. Latoya greeted me and little Brian with the kindest and sweetest smile and Mahreen answered every question, even if I sounded neurotic. On a daily basis, Lucy, Karen or Shanel have answered any and all questions with kindness. It's like all of you are a big family. The kindness and friendliness is honest and real. This has truly been such an incredible blessing to our family. We truly appreciate every single one of you. We are so thankful and so blessed to have found UNF!" - Katie A.

"Words cannot express how grateful I am for the UNF Preschool. As both a parent and UNF employee, it is comforting to know that my daughter is less than a minute away from me throughout the day. I am incredibly thankful for the teachers, staff and volunteers. I know my little girl is being well taken care of and is in a safe learning environment. The preschool is in constant communication with parents and brings a unique sense of togetherness. I love how actively involved the preschool is on campus from the activities, events, field trips, and more! This allows us as parents and UNF staff/faculty to participate in more activities with our children that we would otherwise not have the opportunity to do so. I am extremely grateful for the UNF Preschool for these reasons and for so much more!" - Amanda

"We love that UNF Preschool allows for a time-saving joint commute to work and school. Bonus: the kids get to take advantage of campus amenities with activities like trick-or-treating through academic buildings, walking UNF's nature trail, and visits from the campus police." - Jenn

"UNF Preschool has been a HUGE blessing to me.They even worked with me when my FAFSA process was delayed." - Charla

"The teachers at the UNF Preschool really care about the students. There are so many wonderful resources and activities for the children. The snacks the school provides are beautiful and healthy. It's really nice having a safe and enriching place for my daughter on campus. We both love this school." - Whitney

"As a UNF student, the UNF Preschool has been my savior. Being a single working mom and full-time student hasn't been easy and I will be forever grateful to all the teachers and staff." - Shauna

"I'd like to take a moment to express our satisfaction and gratitude for you and your preschool. UNF Preschool has been such a wonderful experience for our family, I feel so lucky to have found this gem. We were blessed with two of the best teachers, and the lessons and knowledge they have passed to my son are invaluable. I can't count the number of times I have raved about your school, and referred parents to put their children in your care. Mrs. Nancy in particular has been an early childhood education ROCKSTAR. She stays in contact with me daily about my son's challenges, successes, and progress, and makes me feel involved with his school experience. Seeing her work with children is a joy. She has such patience and care, and seems to create a unique bond with each child while still maintaining a professionalism that reflects very well on the school. As my husband said after meeting her just a few times, "You can just tell she was born to work with children". We both want to thank you so much for the wonderful impact your school has had on our son's development." - Casey

"I am so grateful for the staff and teachers at the UNF Preschool! The kindness and loving nature of the teaches help with my son's transition into preschool! I can go to work knowing he is in an environment where he feels loved, secure and confident!" - Meagan
