UNF Surf Team heading to nationals
The University of North Florida’s Surf Team is making waves once again as they head to the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) National Championships June 13 through June 15 in Huntington Beach, California. Their trip follows a stellar performance at the NSSA East Coast Championship in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where the team claimed its eleventh championship title placement.
In addition to the team’s top-three finish in the semifinals, several Ospreys earned individual honors at east coast regionals: Charlotte Maneely placed third in the women’s shortboard division, Chaz Guernsey took third in longboard and Ethan Lowe finished fourth in men’s shortboard.
“I’m incredibly stoked to be heading to nationals,” said Sarah Stotz, who competes in women’s shortboard. “The energy at this event is always electric, and I can’t wait to see everyone bring their A-game on competition day. It’s an amazing experience, and I’m so excited to return to California for my second time at Nationals.”
The NSSA, founded in 1978, is one of the few national youth sports organizations that emphasizes academic achievement alongside athletic performance. With over 80 events hosted annually across the country, the NSSA culminates in its prestigious National Championships, widely considered the most prominent youth surfing competition in the United States.
