UNF’s Spinnaker awarded "Pulitzer Prize of student journalism”
UNF Spinnaker student media was recently honored with the Pacemaker award by the Associated Collegiate Press at the Fall National College Media Convention in Atlanta. This award honors the nation’s top collegiate online media outlets. Spinnaker was named among 18 online news organization recipients at four-year universities across the nation and was the only recipient of the award in Florida.
“Spinnaker being recognized nationally reaffirms the importance of the work we do and our dedication to UNF and the greater Jacksonville community, said Carter Mudgett, Spinnaker editor in chief and senior communication major who will graduate next spring. “It is truly my honor to lead a team of such dedicated and talented reporters this past year.”
The prestigious Pacemaker award, unofficially known as the “Pulitzer Prize of Student Journalism,” recognizes overall excellence and distinguishes the top online student media produced during a particular school year. Pacemaker entries compete directly against each other, and finalists are selected by respected professionals, including professors and current digital media professionals who analyze, discuss and rate each entry.
