UNF Shakespeare wraps Othello production and sets sights on national convention

After nine successful performances throughout Jacksonville and St. Augustine, the UNF Shakespeare cast and crew has been honored with being invited to perform their original rendition of “Othello” at the Shakespeare Association of America’s annual convention in April 2024.

Today, the group closed out their final performance with approximately 500 local high school juniors and seniors in the audience, followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew.

“Othello” had been an 18-month journey, beginning when UNF professor Will Pewitt first reached out to students with the concept of translating select lines into the character’s historically accurate languages. The process moved through over 90 drafts while editing the original Shakespearean script. Dozens of UNF students contributed their time and talents to putting the show’s various pieces together to bring the performance to life.
