UNF Women’s History Month celebrations include lunch with keynote by activist Carmen Perez

Headshot of Carmen PerezThe Women's Center at the University of North Florida will recognize national Women’s History Month through a series of engaging events and programs in March. The signature Women's History Month Luncheon, featuring a keynote from Carmen Perez, award-winning, internationally known civil and human rights leader and Chicana feminist, will be held noon on Friday, March 4.

In addition to the luncheon, the Women’s Center will also host several other events that celebrate and honor women this month, including:

  • Dinner with a Feminist: Tuesday, March 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the John A. Delaney Student Union Ballrooms
  • Consent Carnival Market Day: Wednesday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Osprey Plaza
  • Women's Voices – Five Women, Five Decades: Tuesday, March 29, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Thomas G. Carpenter Library’s classrooms 2102 A & B
  • Women Makers Market: Thursday, March 31, from noon to 4 p.m. in Osprey Plaza

Perez has dedicated 20 years to advocating for many of today's important civil rights issues, including mass incarceration, gender equity, violence prevention, racial healing and community policing. As the president/chief executive officer of The Gathering for Justice, Perez has traveled the globe promoting peace through civil and human rights, building alternatives to incarceration and violence, and providing commentary and guidance for state and federal policy creation.

Perez is the co-founder of Justice League NYC and founder of Justice League CA, two state-based task forces for advancing juvenile and criminal justice reform agenda. She also serves as the National Co-Chair of the Women’s March on Washington, which drew over 5 million people across the globe who marched in resistance of hatred and bigotry, affirming women of all identities’ rights as human beings. In 2017, Perez was named one of Fortune’s Top 50 World Leaders and one of TIME’s most influential people.
