Division of Continuing Ed partners with Springboard to launch data-driven careers

The University of North Florida Division of Continuing Education, the region’s premier provider of lifelong learning, workforce development and transformative enrichment, announced today a partnership with Springboard, the pioneer of mentor-led online learning for the most in-demand careers, to offer two new career track programs in Data Science and Data Analytics. The enrollments are currently open, and designed for a broad range of professionals seeking to upskill in their current jobs or reskill into a completely new career. Upon completion of these flexible and fully remote, six-month programs, students will earn a professional certificate from UNF.

Beyond learning the necessary skills for lucrative data-centric careers (average salary for a data scientist in Florida is $115,395), students will work fully online while paired with their own dedicated industry mentor, student success coach, career coach, and job placement team. These added services will provide students with a competitive edge in the job market, prioritizing career readiness and experiential learning. Employers are looking for an understanding of how this specialized skill set can be applied in a real-world, professional environment, and these new programs are built on a foundation of project-based and applied learning methods to help students upskill and reskill into the jobs of tomorrow.

“The Jacksonville region is a hotbed for the financial technology and healthcare industries, and we want to provide the highly-skilled talent needed to power growth in these data-driven careers,” said Edythe M. Abdullah, Dean of UNF's Division of Continuing Education. “We selected Springboard as a partner in the data vertical, due to its great reputation, flexible and mentor-driven life-long learning model, and proven outcomes."

Jacksonville has been named to CompTIA’s list of Top 20 Tech Towns, and recognized as home to the ZIP code attracting the most millennial-aged young adults in the country. More than 1.5 million people live in the Jacksonville metro area, where several global employers need highly skilled talent in data-rich industries like healthcare (Mayo Clinic, Florida Blue), technology (Amazon, Web.com), and financial services (Bank of America, Citi, Deutsche Bank). According to Emsi Workforce Development research, over 2,000 data-centric job postings in the Jacksonville metro area were left unfilled in the last year. These new programs will help address the growing regional demand for this specialized skill set and create new career opportunities for graduates.

“We offer life-changing educational opportunities for people who are reskilling or upskilling for the most in-demand jobs, and match them with their dream employers,” said Parul Gupta, co-founder of Springboard. “UNF graduates can look forward to an abundance of career opportunities in data science and analytics, and our programs and mentors are ready to support those interested in breaking into these fields.”
