UNF names Ana Roman-Dominguez as the 2020 Women in Leadership Award recipient

Ana Roman Dominguez headshot on a gray backgroundAna Roman-Dominguez, assistant coach of the UNF Women’s Tennis team and a graduate student, is the recipient of the UNF Taylor Leadership Institute’s (TLI) Women in Leadership Award for 2020. This award is in partnership with Dale Carnegie Training.

Roman-Dominguez was honored with the award based on her commitment to the leadership development of her student-athletes, as well as her own growth as a leader in the Team Leadership graduate course taught by Dr. Matthew Ohlson, TLI director. She will receive a course scholarship for a leadership development program valued at nearly $2,000 that will further enhance her ability to lead on campus and within the community.

As a graduate student, Roman-Dominguez is pursuing a Master of Communication Management with a concentration in leadership. She joined the North Florida Women’s Tennis coaching staff in June 2019 after a successful four-year playing career at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa. She was a three-time All-American Conference selection, helping the Bulls earn a conference title and three finals appearances. 

At the start of her collegiate playing career, she was tabbed AAC Freshman of the Year. During her senior year in 2019, Ana was ranked No. 36 in the nation for singles, picked up three player-of-the-week honors, won Best Female Athlete of the Year and Best Performance at USF, and was nominated for Woman Athlete of the Year by the NCAA.

A native of Burgos, Spain, she has extensive youth tennis coaching experience having taught private tennis lessons in Spain and during her time at USF.
