UNF named a 'Top Military Friendly School'

Row of service personalThe University of North Florida has been designated as one of the most military friendly schools in the nation by Military Friendly. The 2020-21 Military Friendly Schools list honors educational institutions nationwide that are doing the most to embrace the nation’s military students and dedicate resources to ensure success both in the classroom and after graduation. UNF has consecutively received this honor for more than ten years.

The Military Friendly Schools list sets the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their families. The list is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources, data from federal agencies, input from student veterans and responses to the survey from participating institutions.

“This is a significant recognition for UNF to be named as one of the nation’s most military friendly schools for the eleventh year in a row,” said Bob Buehn, director of UNF’s Military and Veterans Resource Center. “The Resource Center works hard to provide impactful services offered to our veterans and military-affiliated students and assist them throughout their entire college experience.”

Final results from the data-driven Military Friendly Schools survey assessment are determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, degree advancement and loan default rates for all students, and, specifically, for student veterans.

Using the post-9/11 GI Bill, UNF’s veteran population has grown an average of six percent per year and is now comprised of more than 1,400 veterans or military-affiliated students, representing over eight percent of the University’s student body.

UNF’s Military and Veterans Resource Center is committed to ensuring that military-affiliated students successfully transition from the military environment to campus life and assist in their goal of graduation. The Center also serves as a resource to veteran employees, providing guidance and referrals to assist with integration into the UNF community. Learn more at unf.edu/military-veterans/
