Tom has served UNF since 2002 as both Student Ombudsman and Dean of Students. In his current role as Ombudsman, he serves as a confidential, impartial, independent, and informal resource for UNF students experiencing challenges who either have tried unsuccessfully to resolve them or are not sure of how to address their concerns. The Ombuds helps students identify options for resolution and resources for support based on their unique situation and/or circumstances.    

Tom’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts Psychology from Allegheny College, a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and an Ed.S. in Student Personnel Services from the University at Albany, SUNY. He also completed the Graduate Certificate program in Nonprofit Management from University of North Florida in 2013 as well as additional training in Conflict Transformation and Mediation. He is a member of the  International Ombudsman Association .

As the Ombuds I assist students with: 

  • Understanding University policy & procedures 
  • Issues & complaints associated with the university
  • Guidance on appeals and petitions (Academic Misconduct, Grade Appeal, SAP, SPAP, Fee Petition, MW, Late W, etc.)
  • Assistance with complex problem solving
  • Guidance of student rights
  • Guidance regarding student conduct process 
  • Absence Notifications regarding sensitive matters
