UNF Alumni Association presents Summer 2021 Senior Service Award to Kellea Roberson

KelleaRoberson.jpegThe University of North Florida Alumni Association recognizes each semester a graduating senior for their outstanding service to the University and community through volunteerism. This year, the UNF Alumni Association has selected Kellea Roberson as the recipient of the Senior Service Award for the summer 2021 graduating class.

Roberson is graduating from UNF’s College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and minors in African American & African Diaspora studies and urban & metropolitan studies. While maintaining a 3.6 GPA, Roberson exemplified UNF’s spirit of civic commitment and servant-leadership through her continued aspirations to give back to the community.

While on campus, Roberson volunteered as an ambassador for the Student Alliance for Inclusion and Diversity, where she helped advocate for students of color. This role led her to assisting in the creation of Community Alliance for Student Success, a program to help students of color excel through and beyond their time in college, where she served as an ambassador, helped other students get involved on campus and coordinated an informative podcast on racial identity.

Roberson worked as a historian for the UNF Black Student Union, where she was able to volunteer with local organizations to help strengthen and empower marginalized communities in Jacksonville. She also volunteered as an assistant offering guidance and leadership to incoming freshman as part of the University’s QUEST Program.

Roberson advocated for marginalized communities in her off-campus endeavors as well. She worked as a volunteer assistant for Families of Slain Children in Jacksonville, where she developed and organized service projects, such as food and clothing drives. Roberson also volunteered at the Durkeeville Historical Society, where she shared the rich history of the historical black neighborhood of Durkeeville with the greater community through museum exhibitions, research projects, and interviews.

“Roberson’s contributions and involvements go far beyond what is mentioned and truly reflect her passion for service,” said Michelle McGriff, UNF Alumni Association director. “She is a driven and conscientious leader and an outstanding representative of the University of North Florida. The Alumni Association is proud to have her as an Osprey alumna.”
