UNF senior research associate recognized for outstanding survey contributions
Charlene Stainfield, senior research associate at UNF’s Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL), 
has been awarded a 2019-20 Tarnai Scholarship by the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations (AASRO). The scholarship, created in memory of John Tarnai, former AASRO president, recognizes an outstanding early-career Survey Center employee who shows great promise for long-term involvement and contributions to the field of survey research.
While working in the PORL at UNF, Stainfield has authored several dozen press releases and analytic client reports. She has carried out valuable survey methods research, including an investigation of interviewer effects on responses to police brutality questions that resulted in a poster presentation at the American Political Science Association’s 2019 annual meetings. She also researched the effects of interviewer partisanship on political polling and presented her work at the 2019 annual meetings of the American Association for Public Opinion Research.
"My sincere thanks goes out to the AASRO scholarship committee for this award,” said Stainfield. “The beauty of survey research is that people are always changing their views and behavior, and so the discipline will always be necessary and beneficial. It has been my immense pleasure to learn and explore different methodologies during my time at PORL, and I look forward to contributing to the new ways that survey research will adapt in the future."
In addition to her work for UNF’s PORL, Stainfield is an involved member of the larger Jacksonville community, working as a regular volunteer for programs that help feed the homeless and tutor local refugees.
