UNF student government president elected to Florida Board of Governors
Ally Schneider, a UNF senior and Student Government (SG) president, has recently been elected by her peers to serve as the student representative for the Florida Board of Governors. Schneider was nominated for the position by the Florida Student Association, an organization comprised of student body presidents from the 12 public universities in the state of Florida. In her new role, Schneider will represent the voices and opinions of students from not only UNF, but from all State University System schools in Florida.Her main initiatives while serving at the student representative are to collaborate with other student body presidents to help solve unique issues their universities are facing and to ensure the voices of students who may not be in the forefront of people’s minds are being heard.
“One of the current issues that is very important to me is ensuring that students don’t bear the cost of potential COVID-19 testing,” said Schneider. “Many students don’t have adequate health coverage, or coverage at all. I want to make sure all students are valued and taken into consideration during decision making.”
Schneider first became involved in SG as a senator during her freshman year. She moved on to serve as the university and student affairs chair and was responsible for SG survey production, distribution and data analysis. After that, Schneider served as the chief of staff where she oversaw the marketing staff, worked on presidential initiatives, and wrote legislation.
Schneider is a sociology and political science major planning on pursuing a master’s degree in higher education administration. During her time at UNF, she has studied abroad in Iceland, Switzerland, and France, and is a member of the Alpha Phi fraternity and the UNF chapter of the Roosevelt Institute.
