UNF Esports Duval Kart Clash Rules

Game Setup

  1. Game Version: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, including all downloadable content. 
  2. Controller Policy: Only the console’s standard controllers are permitted; no external controllers are allowed. 
  3. Match Type: Versus Race with no teams. 
  4. Speed Class: 150 CC. 
  5. Items: Standard in-game items. 
  6. Match Format: Four races per match. 
  7. Course Selection: Random course selection. 
  8. Character and Kart Customization: No restrictions on character or kart configuration. 

Tournament Structure and Scoring

  1. Bracket Format: Double-elimination bracket. 
  2. Match Composition: Each match consists of four players. 
  3. Advancement: The top two finishers in a match advance in the winner bracket. The bottom two finishers are placed into the loser bracket. 
  4. Elimination: If a match occurs in the loser bracket and a player finishes in the bottom two, that player is eliminated from the tournament. 
  5. Scoring: Final standings for each match are determined using the game’s built-in scoring system after completion of the four races. 
  6. Administration: All matches and bracket status will be recorded and maintained at the start.gg by authorized student staff. 
  7. If more than 128 registrants: The initial rounds will be single-elimination pools of 16 people. The competitors with the 2 highest scores after 4 rounds of each pool will proceed to the bracket. If there is a tie, play a tie-breaker with those tied to determine the outcome. 

Venue Requirements

  1. Food and Beverage: No eating or drinking is permitted at game stations. 
  2. Bags: All bags must be clear. 
  3. Hygiene: Participants are expected to maintain appropriate personal hygiene prior to and during venue occupancy. 
  4. Technical Interruptions: In the event of technical difficulties, the affected portion of the round will be replayed, and the remaining rounds in the bracket will be completed. 
  5. Policy Compliance: All participants must comply with the University of North Florida student code of conduct, applicable university policies and regulations, and the UNF Esports student code of conduct. 

Participation Requirements and Conduct

  1. Registration and Check In: All players must be pre-registered and must check in at the start of the event. 
  2. Match Attendance: Players must be present at their assigned game station at the scheduled match start time. Failure to be present at the scheduled start time constitutes a forfeit and results in loss of the match. 
  3. Interference: Players must not interfere with the gameplay of others in any manner. Any interference observed by a tournament official will result in disciplinary action. 
  4. Replay of Rounds: If interference affects the outcome of a round, tournament officials may order a replay of that round, depending on the severity. 
  5. Sportsmanship: Players must communicate and behave respectfully. Unsportsmanlike conduct is subject to penalties up to and including disqualification. 

Enforcement and Dispute Resolution

  1. Authority: Tournament officials and designated student staff have final authority over match rulings, bracket administration, and enforcement of these rules. 
  2. Penalties: Penalties for rule violations may include warnings, forfeiture of rounds, disqualification from matches, removal from the tournament, or other sanctions as deemed appropriate by officials. 
  3. Disputes: Any dispute must be reported to a tournament official immediately. Officials will review the matter and issue a binding determination.
