Frequently Asked Questions

    Since you asked...

  • What is the annual giving program?
The Office of Annual Giving raises funds from alumni, parents, students, faculty and staff on an annual basis in support of academic excellence at UNF.
  • Why does UNF need my support?

Tuition and state funding provide a small portion of the revenue necessary to fund UNF's operating budget. Private support generated from alumni giving back is critical to maintaining academic excellence for current and future students.

  • What does my gift support?

Gifts to the annual giving program provide direct support for academic programs, scholarships, research opportunities, community outreach programs and a whole lot more.

  • Can I designate where my contribution goes?

Yes. Your gift can be unrestricted, allowing the University to use the funds for the areas of greatest need on campus, or restricted to a designation of your choice, such as a current scholarship fund, department, organization or specific college.

  • How do I learn more about matching gift programs?

To find out if your employer has a matching funds program, simply contact your employer's human resources office or visit our matching gift page and enter your employer or company name in the search engine.

  • Why do I get a call from UNF each year?

The UNF phonathon program (Osprey Operators) is an integral part of the annual giving program, providing hands-on professional experience for our students while securing funding from our alumni for academics, research and other University initiatives.

  • What calendar does UNF Annual Giving use to recognize gifts?

Annual Giving recognizes gifts according to the University's fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

  • Will I receive tax benefits for my gift?

Yes, in most cases, the University's supporters can deduct gifts from their taxes. Besides making direct, one-time contributions, you also might want to consider the long-term tax and estate-planning benefits of giving through annuities, trusts and other financial tools.

  • Can I make a gift in honor or memory of someone?

Yes. As a tribute to a friend, colleague, mentor, family member or anyone else, you can give in a person's name.
