UNF English professor publishes visual poetry book with postcards
Dr. Clark Lunberry, a professor of English at the University of North Florida, has published a visual poetry book entitled, “Seeking Frozen Sound: Postcard Poems.”
The postcard poems of “Seeking Frozen Sound” originated from Lunberry's discovery of his deceased father's collection of almost 750 vintage travel postcards. These postcards were collected as souvenirs, never mailed and carefully cataloged to remember visited places.
During the spring of 2020, with COVID's arrival and the consequences of suddenly spending so much time at home, he began sorting through the box of postcards. Around the same time, by chance, Lunberry discovered that he could creatively use small fragments from a shredded copy of Marcel Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past" from a recent project he had been working on.
“Seeking Frozen Sound: Postcard Poems” contains photographs of the postcards with poems using a collaging technique similar to what Lunberry occasionally teaches in his creative writing courses.
Along with his interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship, Lunberry is a visual artist and poet. Other works he created include unique environmental poetry projection installations known as "Writing on Water/Writing on Air." These large-scale poems are placed on water and windows across the world.
“Seeking Frozen Sound: Postcard Poems” is available at Barnes & Noble.
