Meals on Wings delivers Thanksgiving meals to local seniors

Preparing meals for seniorsThe University of North Florida’s Meals on Wings program collected, prepared and delivered over 240 Thanksgiving meals to local seniors in need this week.

The Meals on Wings program recovers food from several locations within the Brooks Rehabilitation and Baptist Health systems locally and repackages the food into healthful meals. Each week, five meals are provided to seniors on the waitlist for Meals on Wheels. The program is coordinated by a team of students, faculty and staff who volunteer to recover food, prepare the meals and deliver to the seniors.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics students who volunteer their time insist they get as much out of the program as the seniors. They put classroom lessons into practice to prepare nutritional meals while building relationships with the elders they are serving and giving back to their community.
