UNF art students design organ donation creative elements for Donate Life Awareness Month
The University of North Florida's graphic design and digital media program partnered with LifeQuest and Donate Life Florida to develop organ donation awareness graphics for their awareness campaign that begins today during National Donate Life Month’s Spirit Week.
National Donate Life Month helps raise awareness about organ donation, encourages Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors, and honors those that have saved lives through the gift of donation.
Each semester, UNF students in the Senior Design Studio course team up with local nonprofit organizations to work on graphic projects that make a real impact. Students Janisha Ocana, Sophia Nguyen and Nelia Marichal worked together to develop a short animation, GIFs, ads and assets for social media that will be shared throughout the state of Florida on the LifeQuest and Donate Life Florida websites and social media.
The Senior Design Studio is one of the courses in the Graphic Design and Digital Media program that provide opportunities that go beyond the classroom experience by connecting students with real clients to make a difference for causes they care about.
“I hope this experience will cause an impact not only on my students’ lives and careers, but on the many lives that can potentially be saved by what was produced with this partnership,” said Claudia Scaff, UNF Department of Art, Art History and Design associate professor.
Additional Senior Design Studio partners this semester included the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Jacksonville, Mayo Clinic gift shop, Prelude Chamber Music, Celestial Farms, Community Giving Tree (Massachusetts), and RISE Child Development Center in Austin, Texas.
Locally during the month of April, Jacksonville’s Acosta Bridge, UF Health Shands and Mayo Clinic are also lighting up blue and green in honor of National Donate Life Month.
