UNF honors World Autism Awareness Day

April is World Autism Month and the fourteenth annual World Autism Awareness Day is April 2, 2021. Today, communities around the world come together to ‘Light It Up Blue’ in recognition of people with autism and those who love and support them.

An increasing number of students with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are enrolling in higher education institutions.

At UNF, the Transition to Healthiness, Resourcefulness, Independence, Vocation and Education (THRIVE) program provides support to students with ASDs. The program helps students with ASDs gain important life skills as they work toward graduation and securing gainful employment beyond the college setting.

THRIVE helps students develop social, independent living and career development skills in a safe environment. These skills are crucial to a student’s ability to have a successful and fulfilling college experience.

Since 2012, THRIVE has helped over 240 students complete their degree programs and pursue employment in the career of their choice. More information on THRIVE can be found at www.unf.edu/sac/thrive/.
