Athletics Shatters Records on Annual Giving Day

If recruiting is the lifeblood for college teams, then fundraising is the lifeblood for athletic departments, so the final tally on Wednesday for the annual UNF Giving Day marked a homerun, slam dunk performance for North Florida Athletics.

Despite battling a year-long pandemic that has limited attendance, reduced competitions and restricted face-to-face interactions, UNF Athletics shattered all previous "Giving Day" records finishing with a total of 846 donors contributing $203,564. The totals mark a tripled increase in the previous number of donors and represented a 400-percent increase in funds raised for the event.

"A great job was done by all involved especially our development staff, teams and the executive committee," said UNF Athletic Director Lee Moon. "It was a total team effort for us to reach this level of historic success. One of my favorite sayings is that enthusiasm is caught not taught and our Giving Day results are truly proof of the Osprey passion."

Led by the efforts of the Athletic Development staff and assisted by the dedication and commitment from all the coaching staff, the record-breaking numbers resulted from the passion and enthusiasm for Osprey Athletics held by the alumni, fans and donors of the program.

"Giving Day was a big win for all of our teams and student-athletes," said Nick Morrow, Senior Associate AD of Development, External and Financial Operations. "I believe our record-setting numbers are a direct reflection of where we are headed as an Athletic Department. I am so proud of the incredible effort by our coaches, staff, student-athletes and donors. It's a great day to be an Osprey."

Portions of the proceeds from Giving Day will go to support various sport-specific projects, such as improved lighting in the batting facility for Baseball, additional nets/screens for Softball, practice targets for Men's & Women's Golf and additional scholarship support for our "Super Seniors", who can have an additional year of eligibility due to COVID.
