UNF’s Police Department receives top state law enforcement reaccreditation

The University of North Florida’s Police Department (UPD) UNFPD SUV parked in front of trees and UNF signagerecently earned its reaccreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. This accreditation program is recognized as a means of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism for law enforcement departments across the state.

The UPD has been accredited since October 2005 and is required to comply with approximately 250 standards to receive accredited status. The standards include producing reports and analyses to make fact-based and informed management decisions; showing preparedness to address natural or man-made critical incidents; building and maintaining community relationships; and continuous pursuit of excellence through annual reviews and other assessment measures.

A team from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation assessed the UPD in November 2020. The Commission reviewed all aspects of the department to include investigative files, policies and procedures, hiring practices, equipment and property inventory, training records, conduct and disciplinary records, police communications center, and fiscal activities.

The assessment team produced their findings to the Commission, which is comprised of four sheriffs, four chiefs, and one representative each from the Association of Counties, the League of Cities, the State Law Enforcement Chiefs' Association, and the Judiciary. The panel review granted the UPD with reaccreditation and with no discrepancies.
