UNF named a 'Top Military Friendly School' for 12th consecutive year

soldier saluting a flagThe University of North Florida has been designated as one of the most military friendly schools in the nation by Military Friendly for the 12th consecutive year. The 2021-22 Military Friendly Schools list honors educational institutions nationwide that are doing the most to embrace the nation’s military students and dedicate resources to ensure success both in the classroom and after graduation.

UNF receives this designation in recognition of the University’s true commitment and dedication in their efforts to promote positive educational outcomes, resources, and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the military community.

The Military Friendly Schools list sets the standard for higher education institutions and encourages commitment to providing the best opportunities for veterans and their families.

“We are proud to be continuously recognized for well over a decade as one of the nation’s most military friendly schools,” said Bob Buehn, UNF’s Military and Veterans Resource Center director. “The MVRC works hard to provide impactful services to our veterans and military-affiliated students and assist them throughout their college experience.

The Military Friendly Schools list is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources for more than 8,800 schools nationwide, input from student veterans, and responses to the surveys from participating institutions. Ratings are measured by each institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, degree advancement or transfer and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans. The survey questions, methodology, criteria and weighting were developed with the assistance of an independent research firm and an advisory council of educators and employers.

Using the post-9/11 GI Bill, UNF’s veteran population has grown an average of 6% per year and is now comprised of nearly 1,400 veterans or military-affiliated students, representing over 8% of the University’s student body.

UNF’s MVRC is committed to ensuring that military-affiliated students successfully transition from the military environment to campus life and assist in their goal of graduation. The MVRC also serves as a resource to veteran employees, providing guidance and referrals to assist with integration into the UNF community. Learn more at https://www.unf.edu/military-veterans/.
