UNF student project leads to creation of new City Council sub-committee
Evan Maslin, UNF senior and Hicks Honors College student, recently presented to the City of Jacksonville’s Special Committee on Resilience, chaired by Councilman Matt Carlucci. Maslin’s presentation titled, “Green Infrastructure and Urban Greening in the City of Jacksonville,” focused on a land recovery and redevelopment program that could be implemented to enhance urban sustainability goals. His goal for the project was to provide members of the City Council with an economically feasible idea that addresses environmental challenges and advances public health efforts. Maslin’s project was supervised by Dr. Joshua Gellers, Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Administration.“[Evan] generated a rich and informative discussion, leading Councilman DeFoor as the incoming Resiliency Chair to form a new sub-committee to investigate implementing the side lot concept in Jacksonville,” said Alyson S. Lee, executive council aide to Councilman Matt Carlucci. “Now that is success!”
Evan is a senior undergraduate student at UNF majoring in economics and international studies. He is a member of the Hicks Honors College, a Stanford University Innovation Fellow, and a
