UNF Alumni Association presents Senior Service Award

Leanza Mayo headshotThe University of North Florida is honoring graduating senior, Leanza Marie Mayo, with the Senior Service Award. This award is presented by the UNF Alumni Association each semester to a graduating senior for outstanding service to the University and community through volunteerism.

Mayo, a St. Augustine resident, is receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from UNF’s Brooks College of Health.

Throughout her tenure at UNF, she has accumulated nearly 1,000 service hours, while standing out in a rigorous and competitive academic program. Excelling in academics with a 3.94 GPA, Mayo also exhibited a great dedication to ambassadorship for UNF with her willingness to serve for the betterment of others in the Jacksonville community and abroad.

While attending classes at UNF, Mayo was selected as a member of the Brooks10 Student Ambassadors, an interprofessional student group within the Brooks College of Health. In this role, Mayo encouraged incoming fellow transfer students to get involved in all UNF has to offer. She also volunteered with UNF programs including the Ogier Gardens, Lend-A-Wing Pantry, Meals on Wings and Food Fighters.

As volunteer coordinator for the Meals on Wings program, Mayo managed more than 30 volunteers and coordinated with hospitals and community organizations to get meals to food-insecure populations within the metro area, including Northeast Florida AIDS Network, Lutheran Social Services and others.

While in high school in St. Augustine, Mayo received the Rising Star Award from the St. Augustine Rotary Club for her continued efforts to selflessly exemplify the Rotary International motto: “Service Above Self.”
