UNF Names William F. 'Chip' Klostermeyer As College of Computing, Engineering & Construction Dean
The University of North Florida has named William F. “Chip”” Klostermeyer as dean of the College of Computing, Engineering & Construction (CCEC). Klostermeyer has been serving as interim dean of the college since October 2018.
In his role as dean, Klostermeyer will continue to oversee and lead UNF’s CCEC with thousands of students and over 60 faculty positions in the School of Computing, School of Engineering, Department of Construction Management, Materials Science and Engineering Research Facility, Center for the Advancement of Women in Engineering and the Taylor Engineering Research Institute.
“Chip has done a remarkable job advancing the College of Computing, Engineering & Construction and the University is fortunate to have him continue to lead and serve as dean,” said UNF President David Szymanski. “His established relationships with faculty, staff and students will allow the college to continue to provide exciting and engaging degree programs and hands-on technical education for our students.”
During his tenure as interim dean, Klostermeyer helped to advance the college with strategic initiatives including establishing the data science degree program and inter-college master’s degree in materials science and engineering, increasing startup funding for new faculty in two departments, facilitating student use of the Johnson & Johnson 3-D Printing Center of Excellence, assisting the college in raising over $2.5 million in donations and receiving one million dollars in scholarship funds reallocated from another philanthropy project.
“I am very pleased that Dr. Klostermeyer has accepted the dean position,” UNF Provost Simon Rhodes stated. “His commitment to student, faculty, and staff success as well as his collaborative approach in building programs by partnering with the community and with other disciplines will position him for outstanding success in this leadership role.”
Klostermeyer has been at UNF since 2001, serving as a professor of computer science. He is a graph theorist, interested in problems in domination theory and graph coloring. He has published more than 100 papers in these areas in journals such as the Journal of Graph Theory, Discrete Mathematics, and Graphs and Combinatorics.

Klostermeyer is an Institute for Combinatorics and its Applications fellow and has served as chair of the Faculty Affairs Committee. He previously served as UNF Faculty Association president, UNF Board of Trustees member, chair of the Academic Standards Committee and Intercollegiate Athletic Committee, and was chair or member of numerous other departments, university and faculty association committees. He was honored with the UNF Outstanding Faculty Scholarship Award in 2008. Prior to joining UNF, Klostermeyer served on the faculty and was a tenured associate professor at West Virginia University. Klostermeyer received both his doctoral and master’s degrees in computer science from the University of Florida.
