Dr. Mei Zhao, chair of UNF’s Department of Health Administration and past president of the Jacksonville Chinese Association, spearheaded efforts to have the local Chinese community collect unused PPE to donate to healthcare workers. The Chinese community and other partners have donated more than $78,000 worth of PPE supplies to Baptist Health, including 23,000 N95 masks and 14,000 gloves. Dr. Zhao said, “We are very proud to be able to provide some help during this difficult time.” Zhao hopes their efforts inspire more businesses and organizations to join us in supporting frontline healthcare providers. “We are deeply grateful to the frontline medical staff—they are the heroes of our community. We want to tell them that they are not alone, and we are ready to support them. United we stand to combat the virus,” said Dr. Lian An, UNF economics professor and chairwoman of the Jacksonville Chinese Association.
