Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Scholarship

The University of North Florida's School of Engineering is proud to offer this scholarship sponsored by Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is the premier professional engineering association in the United States for connecting architects, engineers and builders in the public sector and private industry, uniting them to improve individual and collective capabilities for national security. SAME’s goal is to unite A/E/C entities and individuals in the public and private sector so that better preparations can be made for natural and manmade disasters, acts of terrorism and improved security at home and abroad.

Criteria

Successful applicants must:

  • meet admission requirements and be accepted to the University of North Florida
  • be a declared major in Engineering or Construction Management
  • have earned a minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application
  • Write a short essay (150 words minimum, 250 words maximum) on "What I hope to accomplish as a practicing architect/construction manager or engineer and how will these goals impact/influence communities."

Preferences

Preference will be considered as follows:

  • At least one of the two scholarships each year will be awarded to a S.A.M.E. student post member that meets the criteria; if there are no S.A.M.E. post applicants, the award is open to all other students.
  • The applicant must meet or exceed the academic criteria and are involved with extracurricular activities, such as varsity sports teams, student clubs, work, research, church groups, community service events, mentoring/tutoring, etc., but not leisure activities, such as intramural sports, sailing, bowling, etc.
  • The applicant must demonstrate leadership skills in any activities in which the student is involved, whether extracurricular or for leisure. For example, being an officer in a student club (e.g., secretary, treasurer, vice-president, president, committee head, etc.), work shift lead/supervisor/manager, sports team captain, tutoring coordinator, bowling league coordinator, intramural soccer team captain, etc.

Responsibilities

Scholarship recipients must:

  • enroll full-time (12+ credit hours) in the semester the scholarship is awarded
  • maintain a GPA of at least 3.0
  • remain in good standing as a student
  • comply with all University regulations, rules, and codes of conduct governing students on campus
  • consent to release grades to the Division of University Development and Alumni Engagement for the purpose of reporting to the Donor
