School of Computing majors at the University of North Florida can expect the most bang for their buck out of any degree, according to a recent PayScale College ROI Report. UNF is ranked No. 2 in the state and in the Top 50 nationwide for return on investment on computing education degrees.

PayScale, an organization that collects and shares data on compensation, compiled a list of schools that have the best return on investment for technology degrees. The ranking takes universities and colleges across the country and looks at the return on investment (ROI) on the degree over 20 years. The annual ROI is then calculated as a percentage of expected ROI received each year after graduation.

In the state, UNF, which has an annual ROI of 12.2 percent, only ranked behind No. 14 UF — which had an ROI of 12.9 percent — but was ranked higher than other major state universities, like Florida State and University of Central Florida.

“The tight integration of the School of Computing with the Northeast Florida IT industry is providing our students with great opportunities in the form of internships and hands-on training while attending school, and most definitely in the form of good paying jobs after graduation,” said Dr. Sherif Elfayoumy, UNF School of Computing director.

UNF is ranked No. 39 overall nationwide, with an annual ROI of 12.2 percent. It’s tied with such universities like of CUNY Queens College, Iowa State University, Kansas State University, University of Massachusetts Lowell Campus and University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

There are 962 schools included in the overall PayScale College ROI list; 442 public (both in-state and out-of-state costs are included), 505 private not-for-profit and 15 private for-profit schools. PayScale provides median earnings data of workers who attended college based on where their household fell in the income distribution when they attended college.
