Dr. JeffriAnne Wilder, a University of North Florida associate professor of sociology and race expert, made the inaugural list of Jacksonville’s 2015 Top 30 Women of Influence by Southeast Small Business Magazine.

Wilder, a Mandarin resident, was recognized today during an awards breakfast at the University Club in celebration of Women’s History Month. The list reflects the names of women in communities who have reached senior level positions within their profession, are leading entrepreneurs in their industry, have proven history-making feats or have attained the ability to influence large public bodies politically and in government.

In addition to professional accomplishments, the Top Women of Influence have demonstrated a commitment to the citizenry of their communities by maintaining significant involvement and participation in community and civic activities.

“I am humbled and excited to be selected for this honor,” said Wilder. “The dynamic group of women on this list are doing amazing things in the Jacksonville community, and I am happy to represent UNF in this way.”

Wilder is very passionate about connecting sociology to the everyday issues occurring within our society. She writes, researches, and lectures on the contemporary experience of black Americans and other racial/ethnic minorities. Her work has been published in an array of academic journals and publications, and she regularly speaks on race, gender and diversity issues.

She is the author of “Color Stories: Black Women and Colorism in the 21st Century” and has been featured in numerous media outlets, including “Nightline,” “20/20,” The New York Times, Black Enterprise, National Public Radio and more.
