UNF OLLI Kickoff Offers Diverse Sampling

The University of North Florida Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in the Division of Continuing Education will host its fall kickoff event from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Adam W. Herbert University Center, Building 43, on the UNF campus.

This free event for individual 50 years and better will offer 24 mini-sample sessions of UNF OLLI programs and classes, running four concurrent, 15-minute instructor-led sessions. Each mini-session will include an overview of each instructor’s passion as well as time for questions-and-answers.

Offerings will including mini-sessions in fishing in Northeast Florida, the movies, lasers and eye care, travel adventures, aging with technology, meteorology, poetry, physics, gardening and more. Each course is taught by a volunteer expert in the field, most of whom led prestigious careers in the field of study.

“We are excited to offer this one-day university to provide those age 50 and better with opportunities to meet some of our great instructors and sample interesting programs from each of our curriculum areas,” said Jeanette Toohey, UNF OLLI program director. “With 1,400 members and more than 350 programs annually, there’s something for every palette.”


OLLI leadership will be on hand to answer membership questions, and members and non-members will network over light refreshments during a built-in social time from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

OLLI provides intellectual, social and cultural enrichment opportunities in a climate that fosters friendship and a mutual sharing of ideas and life experiences. OLLI offers courses, ED-ventures, Speaker Series programs and other special events.
