The University of North Florida Division of Continuing Education and the Brooks College of Health have collaborated with Wellcoaches School of Coaching to offer the area’s only certified health and wellness coach training program.

“We are thrilled to offer an in-demand certification program for health care professionals seeking to boost their employment opportunities,” said Lori Frederick, UNF Division of Continuing Education program director.

According to the 2014-15 Occupational Handbook from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, the demand for health and wellness coaches is expected to increase 13 percent by 2022. Health and wellness coaches facilitate a partnership and change processes that enable clients to modify their mindsets and sustain behaviors proven to improve health and well-being. According to a public personnel management study, when training is combined with coaching, individuals increase productivity by an average of 88 percent, compared to 22 percent with training alone.

The health and wellness coach training program at UNF includes 18 interactive, 90-minute weekly classes each conducted via telephone bridge line. Current health care professionals, with a degree or license, can attend these live sessions and participate in discussion and practice exercises. Though the coursework isn’t online, materials for the class are accessed via a secure website.

The program fee is $1,245 and the core certification sitting fee is $495. All course materials are included. For a limited time, a $100 early registration discount is being offered. Classes begin Monday, May 12, at 10 a.m. For more information, including eligibility and enrollment, contact Frederick at (904) 620-5801 or .
