Coursedog Implementation at UNF

What is Coursedog?

Coursedog is a curriculum and course scheduling management software used by higher education institutions across the globe to streamline academic processes. At UNF, we will be using Coursedog to modernize our Academic Programs Committee (APC) process, revamp our catalog, and improve our process for scheduling courses. This webpage will serve as the hub of all information you need to know about Coursedog while it is in the project phase. You can find information about how we plan to make Coursedog work for UNF and how this change will affect you below.

Why Coursedog?

UNF chose to collaborate with Coursedog to enhance its curriculum management, course catalog and scheduling processes due to Coursedog’s robust and user-friendly platform. Coursedog offers streamlined solutions that improve efficiency in curriculum planning and course scheduling, which are critical for optimizing resources and ensuring a smooth academic experience. By leveraging Coursedog's technology, UNF aims to modernize and simplify these processes, ultimately leading to better organization, reduced administrative burden, and improved academic outcomes for students, staff and faculty.

Who is on the Project Team?

The project sponsor for the Coursedog implementation is Dr. Susan Perez, Associate Provost. This project falls under the division of Academic & Student Affairs and is being implemented with help from the Project Management Office in Information Technology Services. The core project team consists of experienced UNF faculty and staff representing the Registrar's Office, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, ITS, the Office of Student Success, as well as faculty members with years of experience with the APC process. UNF is committed to ensuring that the implementation of this new platform goes smoothly and we are confident in our team's ability to ensure this project's success.

How will Coursedog affect me?

The implementation of Coursedog at UNF is designed to significantly enhance how we manage the catalog, curriculum and scheduling. By automating many of the manual tasks involved, Coursedog will streamline workflows, allowing us to handle these processes with greater efficiency and less administrative burden. The platform centralizes and standardizes information, which reduces errors and inconsistencies, ensuring that all course and scheduling details are accurate and up-to-date. Specific information about how our transition to Coursedog will affect specific roles can be found at the end of this page.
  • The University Catalog
One of the most noticeable changes for all faculty, staff and students will be that we will have a new catalog website with a more seamless look and feel. In addition to the new look, catalog updates will become much more automated as course and program information will sync automatically to changes approved by the APC. This eliminates opportunities for errors, and reduces the amount of time needed to view updates to the catalog in real time. Staff responsible for updating department pages in the catalog will do so through a new enhanced platform and changes will be reviewed and approved through a workflow.
  • The APC Process
Coursedog introduces automations and workflows, eliminating the need for bulky paper forms and fillable PDFs. The user-friendly interface allows you to easily introduce curriculum updates for consideration, and enables members of the APC to more easily review changes. This yields the result of significantly reduced processing times and a more simplified process for faculty. The ability to submit APC changes will be limited to faculty that have undergone appropriate training. Functionally, approvals from deans, chairs and committees will not see much change. Approvers will still receive email notifications to approve changes, however the approval system will look more modernized.
  • Course Scheduling
College personnel who currently use Banner to schedule courses will now use Coursedog. This new platform has the added benefit of integrating directly with Banner and Degree Works, so class additions will be easily viewable by students and faculty. This change will not affect how students register for courses, and it will not impact faculty.
  • Course Demand Projections
With this final phase of the Coursedog project, departments and colleges will have tools to better predict course demand, and student needs to help ensure classes are appropriately and strategically scheduled.
