Department of Health Administration

The Department of Health Administration (DHA) at UNF is a vibrant, innovative, and unique place to study. Jacksonville, Florida is located in one of the most dynamic health services marketplaces in the United States and is home to 15 hospitals including the Mayo Clinic. The city also has numerous non-profit and for-profit health-related organizations. The Northeast Florida region has recently experienced growth in overall population and diversity. Jacksonville is geographically situated as a gateway for the movement of people, products, and healthcare services. As a result, numerous opportunities exist for student internships, residencies, and permanent employment.

UNF has been rated one of the best college values in the country. The campus is located in beautiful, sunny, northeast Florida, just minutes from downtown Jacksonville, riverfront areas, and the Atlantic Ocean. The campus has been rated the most scenic in the state. The campus is located on just over 1,000 acres and includes miles of walking trails, zip lines, a lazy river, and other recreational opportunities.
UNF's Health Administration faculty is dedicated to providing a high quality educational experience. We offer students the ability to receive a 21st century education that blends cutting edge business and leadership skills with a commitment to community service. Students in all programs are active in a variety of service projects within the Jacksonville community, including Mayo Clinic, Baptist Health System, HCA, Saint Vincent's Health System, UF Health Jacksonville, and Florida Blue.

The Department offers a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree and a Bachelor of Health Administration (BHA) degree. The MHA is a full-time 2-year or part-time 3-year campus-based program, with all the classes offered in the evenings from Monday to Thursday to accommodate the students with full-time jobs. The MHA program blends classroom instruction with field experiences and culminates with a practicum experience that can range from a one-semester placement with a healthcare care organization to a one-year paid residency with a hospital or health system. The MHA targets highly qualified students who seek a career path leading to a leadership position in a healthcare organization. A dual degree option is also offered: MHA/MBA. In the BHA Program, students gain technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and experience to be successful in entry-level positions in Healthcare Administration. Health Administration professionals function in a wide range of roles including facilities management, patient registration, financial management, and healthcare operations. These activities can take place in a variety of settings that include hospitals, medical groups, insurance companies, long-term facilities, healthcare agencies, and other healthcare organizations.

The Department's full-time faculty anchor the CAHME-accredited and competency-based curriculum of the MHA program and AUPHA-certified BHA program, complemented by guest speakers and adjunct faculty who bring their practice expertise to the program. Graduates of the Department's MHA program hold top leadership positions in a number of the nation's and region's leading healthcare organizations.
