UNF Alumni Club Quarterly Speaker Series-Feb. 20


The UNF Alumni Club will present Brian Goin, executive director of The Players Championship on Wednesday, Feb. 20 in the University Center from 11:45 a.m. -1 p.m. Hear first hand about TPC that takes place in Jacksonville on March 18 - 24. The TPC has a $60+ million dollar impact on Jacksonville and donates more than $1.5 million to charity. Goin will talk about his responsibility for every organizational aspect of the tournament as well as raising community awareness for the tournament.



Major Motion Picture Tour-Feb. 21


A campus tour featuring free lunch for 250 students, a rock climbing wall, a mountain bike obstacle course with hourly stunt shows, interactive games, vehicle displays, product demonstrations, free prizes and giveaways will come to the Green on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour, sponsored by Volkswagen and Trek, also includes a free feature-length film with popcorn and soda on the Green at dusk or in the event of inclement weather, will be shown in the Robinson Center, Room 1700 on Friday, Feb. 23. UNF Board of Trustees Meeting-Feb. 21


The UNF Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 2:30 –5 p.m. in the University Center. The agenda items include housing fees for 2002-2003 and proposed reorganization of the Department of Health Science and approving criteria for new program approval. Presentations will be made regarding on-campus housing, the College of Health and the College of Education and Human Services. Excellence in Training&Employee Development Awards-Feb. 21


The UNF Division of Continuing Education will host the second annual Excellence in Training&Employee Development Awards at the University Center on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. Individuals, teams and organizations from North Florida whose outstanding achievements have significantly advanced workplace learning and performance will be recognized. Ossie Davis to Speak at Martin Luther King Jr Scholarship Lunch-Feb. 22


Tickets for the 21st annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Luncheon are now on sale in the Ticket Box Office. Ossie Davis, actor, director, scriptwriter, and producer will be the featured speaker this year. The event raises money for scholarship funds for outstanding African American students who have excelled in academics and participated in campus and community service activities. Two of the awards will presented at the lunch. The luncheon will be in the University Center from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 22. Individual tickets are $33 and $15 for students.

1959 Pink Thunderbird-Starts Feb. 22


The Corbomite Players Theatre Club performs two plays, "1959 Pink Thunderbird" and "Laundry and Bourbon with Lone Star" by James McLure that present the he/she view of marriage, love and life. The performances are in the Robinson Theatre and are free, although donations are appreciated. Performances will be Feb. 22 –23 and Feb 28-March 1 at 8 p.m. with a matinee on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.



Jacksonville Scottish Highland Games-Feb. 23

 


A celebration of Scottish culture including dance, athletics, food, and music will be Saturday, Feb. 23 from 8 .am. to 5 p.m. on the UNF athletic Fields. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate. For more information visit www.jaxscot.org.



Ask Your Mamma-Feb. 23


A musical adaptation of the Langston Hughes poem of the same name by the celebrated African American composer Hale Smith features William Brown, tenor, and a small ensemble comprised of UNF faculty and students with Dr. Lenard C. Bowie, conductor. The concert will be Saturday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center, Small Recital Hall. Tickets are $ 10 for non-students, and $5 for students and senior citizens.



The Tempest-Feb. 26


The National Shakespeare Company, a group of young actors from New York City, will perform "The Tempest" in the Robinson Theater on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. The show is one and a half hours long with no intermission and no admission fee. There will also be a student acting workshop that day in the Robinson Center, Room 1602 from 1- 2 p.m.
