Course Migration Options

CIRT offers several options to help instructors move their course content into Canvas. Look for an email in June to identify the options you want for your courses.

Auto Migration

In an auto migration, all transferable course content is copied into Canvas. You will be notified when the process has been completed and can request further assistance as needed upon review.

This option rolled out in June 2016 and will be available until May 16, 2017. Requests submitted by April 26th, 2017 will be completed by May 1st, 2017 and requests made after April 26th will be completed in the order received

Self-Migration

In a self-migration the instructor exports the course from Blackboard and imports it into one of their SANDBOX courses, or simply downloads their  files from Blackboard and builds a new course in Canvas. This is a good opportunity to review and revise courses.
This option is available now- more information in the Bb to Canvas Migration Guide.

Self-Migration with Assistance

These options are a good opportunity to become better acquainted with the new system.

  • Canvas Migration Bootcamp
Instructors can attend a Canvas Migration Bootcamp to see a course migration demonstrated and then work on their migration in a lab environment with assistance.
  • One-on-One Consultation
Instructors can schedule an individual appointment to sit down with a CIRT staff member and receive one-on-one assistance with course migration.

Full Migration with Cleanup

In a full migration, all transferable course content is copied into Canvas and some cleanup is performed by CIRT. You will be notified when the process has been completed and can request further assistance as needed upon review.

This option rolled out in June 2016 and will be available until May 1, 2017. Requests submitted by March 27th, 2017 will be completed by April 25th, 2017 and requests made after March 27th will be completed in the order received. Since the method relies on Blackboard, this option will no longer be available after May 1st to ensure adequate time to fulfill requests.

No Migration

Sometimes it is better to leave the past behind and start fresh!

To choose the Auto Migration or Full Migration with Cleanup, provide us with your course information by completing this form:

Please note that the typical request takes a full week to complete, but may take up to two weeks depending on the number of requests and time of semester.
