Karthikeyan Umapathy is currently working as an Associate Professor at the School of Computing, University of North Florida (UNF). He is the 2018 - 2022 recipient of the FIS Distinguished Professor in Computing Award. He is a co-director of Florida Data Science for Social Good (FL-DSSG). He received his Ph.D. in Information Sciences and Technology from the Pennsylvania State University. His research interests center on designing and developing complex information systems, analyzing web service standards, and empirically investigating information technology (IT) standardization processes. He uses service learning to provide a real-world software development experience for students by identifying projects from Non-Profit and Small-business organizations. He works closely with local software development companies to engage them within his courses. He creates a wide variety of opportunities within and outside of the curriculum to help students gain technical expertise and experience in providing professional service.
He provides technology consultancy services for small businesses, startup companies, and non-profit organizations. He has expertise in mobile and web application development. He provides consulting on technology planning, business plan, lean startup methodology, product development, and market testing.
Get Involved with FL-DSSG
The 2022 FL-DSSG Internship program was kicked off on June 6th. The FL-DSSG Summer Internship program supports six interns and three community partners. Internship is a 12-week program that runs from June 6th to August 26th. Won the SIG Best Paper Award at the 2019 AERA Conference
Won the SIG-Computer and Internet Application in Education Best Paper Award at the 2019 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Conference. The paper we presented was titled as Block-Based Versus Text-Based Programming Environments on Novice Student Learning: A Meta-Analysis Study.
2019 SAIS Conference Paper Award
Won the Best Faculty and Student Paper Award at the 2019 Southern Association on Information Systems (SAIS). The paper we presented was titled as An Exploratory Study on the Influences of Website Quality on Actual Purchase and Moderation Effects.
