Karthikeyan Umapathy is currently working as an Associate Professor at the School of Computing, University of North Florida (UNF). He is the 2018 - 2020 recipient of the FIS Distinguished Professor in Computing Award. He is a co-director of Florida Data Science for Social Good (FL_DSSG). He received his Ph.D. in Information Sciences and Technology from the Pennsylvania State University. His research interests center on designing and developing complex information systems, analyzing web service standards, and empirically investigating information technology (IT) standardization processes. He uses service learning to provide a real-world software development experience for students by identifying projects from Non-Profit and Small-business organizations. He works closely with local software development companies to engage them within his courses. He creates a wide variety of opportunities within and outside of the curriculum to help students gain technical expertise and experience on providing professional service.
He provides technology consultancy services for small businesses, startup companies, and non-profit organizations. He has expertise in mobile and web application development. He provides consulting on technology planning, business plan, lean startup methodology, product development, and market testing.

The 2018 FL-DSSG 12-week Internship program ran from June 4th to August 24th. You can find information about the interns and completed project at the above 2018 program link. For the 2019 FL-DSSG program, we are looking for data science projects from nonprofit and public sector organizations, talented UNF students interested in gaining data science internship experience, and experienced data scientists to mentor students.
