24-Hour Crisis Helpline
If a crime has impacted someone you know, we can help. Call (904) 620 – 1010 to speak with an Advocate. The Crisis Helpline is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Crisis Intervention & Emotional Support
If you are a victim of a crime, you may experience many emotions due to trauma. No matter when the event occurred, advocates are available to support you. Advocates are available 24 hours a day to assist community members who need support after a crime or victimization. Office Hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. –5:00 p.m. Walk-in appointments are available by visiting the Women’s Center located in Founder’s Hall. To contact an advocate after hours, please call the Crisis Helpline at (904) 620 - 1010.
Evaluation of Options
We believe that you have the right to decide what you would like to do with your story. You have the right to report or choose not to report. Whatever you decide, an advocate can assist you in evaluating your options and provide information about the process.
Information and Referrals
As advocates, we want to ensure that you have all the information and resources you need to make an informed decision. We provide information about the university, civil, and criminal justice systems. An advocate can make referrals on campus and in the local community.
Safety Planning
A safety plan is a tool used to reduce the risk of future harm. It can include planning for future crises, evaluating options, and identifying a supportive network. All clients of the Victim Advocacy Program will have the option to work on their safety plan with an advocate.
Explanation of Rights
You have rights as a victim under the Florida Statutes. We are here to help you understand your rights.
Accompaniment through Criminal Justice, Student Conduct, and Injunction Processes
Advocates may act as a liaison and support anyone who decides to file an injunction, report to law enforcement, the Title IX Office, or the Office of Student Accountability and Resolution.
Assistance in Filing Crimes Compensation
The Victim Compensation Program provides crime victims with economic losses occurring as a result of the crime. Clients are encouraged to speak with an advocate for assistance with applying for victim’s compensation.
Documentation of Victimization for School or Employment
Victimization Documentation can be provided upon request.
Assistance in Completing Victim Impact Statements
A victim impact statement is a written or oral statement made as part of a judicial process. Advocates are available to assist with developing the statement.
Educational Presentations and Materials
Request a presentation from the Victim Advocacy program for a class or group.
...And any other assistance that may be required to assist victims/survivors in rebuilding their lives.
Confidentiality
The Victim Advocacy program assures confidentiality to persons who utilize advocacy services. Clients' names and identifying information will not be released to a third party without prior written consent.The program must release information under the following conditions: an individual presents a danger to self or others, or is suspected of child or elderly abuse.
