Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 3:00 PM by Elizabeth Gregg, chair.

Meeting Minutes

  • Approval of the Minutes

    Minutes from previous meeting (6 September 2017) held via email approved.
  • Introductory Remarks/Old Business

    Elizabeth Gregg (chair) solicited votes via email on 6 September 2017 on the question of amending the Adjunct Affairs Committee bylaws to include reviewing and evaluating outstanding adjunct faculty applications for awarding the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching award. The language was approved by the committee via email and submitted to the Faculty Association Executive Committee and approved.
  • New Business

    The committee discussed the question of graduate assistants as OPS employees who serve at-will and their pay when compared to part-time faculty (i.e., adjunct), and, specifically, if the committee has any ability to forward a position on urging the university to attend to and increase part-time faculty compensation.

    Additional discussion followed in which committee members brainstormed opportunities or methods to solicit improving part-time faculty compensation, beginning with inviting Interim Provost Pam Chally to discuss the matter from the administrative perspective.

    Questions the committee would like to better understand: knowing the number of part-time faculty and range and frequency of pay rates?

    Paul Mosley, Elizabeth Gregg, and David MacKinnon will reach out to various administrators and offices on campus to solicit part-time faculty statistics and trends.

    On a related note, the committee discussed the need for the Campus Technology Committee to review those processes that affect part-time faculty, such as intellikey expiration and email access continuity to ensure that part-time faculty maintain continuous email access despite their contract date-limited hiring.
